Good news: Stephen Curry’s journey from high school nobody to NBA lottery pick is no longer just a feel-good rise to superstardom. With this latest point to plot, Curry’s case is now a parabola of fame and fortune!
Before he became BFF with LeBron James, before he was ignored by college coaches, before he even entered kindergarten, Curry’s exuberant presence merited the watchful gaze of Don Nelson at the 1992 NBA All-Star Game. (The guy’s got an eye for talent.) NBA.com’s John Schuhmann unearthed this photographic gem this morning, but we’re here to add context to these 1,000 words with some intrepid reporting of our own. Here’s what really went down:
“The Timberwolves are going to draft this hombre with floppy hair with the No. 5 pick,” said Curry, who had just learned to count and was looking for opportunities to show off. “Then they’re going to trade for the No. 6 pick and take another point guard and finally, the gray-haired dude behind us is going to pick me with the No. 7 pick. So, yeah, that’s how I’ll be playing in Golden State in 17 years.”
“You for real?” Mitch Richmond asked.
“I’m going to be a better shooter than you and my pops, you just wait. Also, check out my sweatsuit.”
“Not that,” said Richmond, ignoring the tyke’s threads. “You’re telling me that in 2009, Nellie’s still going to be in Golden State?”

Nobody’s better than Freel nowadays -
Interleague play is now over, except for the tentatively-but-not-officially-rescheduled-for-September-3 Cubs/White Sox game from the May 16 rainout. The Cubs are 6-8 in interleague this year, pending that game. Once again, the AL dominated interleague play. Only five NL teams finished with winning interleague records (Marlins, 10-8; Cardinals, 9-6; Pirates, 8-7; Giants, 9-6, and Rockies, 11-4). Even the Dodgers, still running away with the NL West, only played .500 (9-9) in interleague.
The Cubs have 13 games until the All-Star break; ten of these will be against teams from the NL Central (the three vs. Atlanta next week are the only ones that are outside the division). At two games under .500, it’d be nice to go at least 8-5 in those 13 games to reach the break with a winning record. However, let me point out that of the three Cub playoff teams in this decade, only one (last year’s) reached the All-Star break with anything resembling a good record. The 2007 team was 44-43 and 4.5 games out of first place at the break, and the 2003 team was 47-47 and 3 games out.
There’s still time. But this club needs to start playing to its capabilities, get Aramis Ramirez back at even 85% of full strength, go out and get another hitter and some bullpen help, and focus on baseball. Enough of the off-field soap opera.
I’m not even going to link to Phil Rogers’ silly column about waiving Carlos Zambrano. That’s another of Phil’s “heat of the moment” idiocies. Z just has to get his head on straight and live up to his considerable talent.
What I am going to do again… is ask for civility here. I have received numerous emails over the weekend with various complaints about personal attacks and profanity in the game threads. While I understand we are all frustrated with this team’s performance — I’m no exception to that — all I ask is that you keep those two things out of the game thread (and other thread) discussion. Also, I know there are quite a few new posters here, and some of the posts recently have, quite frankly, gotten away from the types of posts that help further the discussion here. If you are new, we welcome you — but I also ask that you please read all the posts under “BCB Specials & Site Info” on the right sidebar that have to do with posting tips and suggestions. Following the ideas in those posts will help you make better posts.

Zach Duke is 4-5, 3.03 in 14 career starts against the Cubs, but has not beaten them at all since shutting out that horrific 2006 team on May 2, 2006. He pitched seven good innings at Wrigley Field on May 27, but left in a 2-2 tie and the Pirates bullpen blew the game (hmmm. Sound familiar?) It would seem that Duke would be a guy that Alfonso Soriano would love to see to break his slump. Soriano is 15-for-29 (.517) lifetime vs. Duke with four doubles and two HR.
Rich Harden: please give us the 2008 version of yourself. He’s 0-3, 5.64 in his last four starts. Tonight will be his first career start against the Pirates; the only Buc he has faced for more than two at-bats is ex-Cub farmhand Eric Hinske (4-for-14, 2 HR).
Today’s game is on WCIU. That means it can be seen within a three-block radius of their headquarters downtown. Maybe this is a good thing, considering the recent play of the team. The FSN Pittsburgh feed should be available on EI. For other games today see the MLB.com Mediacenter.

If you’re a fan of mora, you’ll like this,
Jennings, who opted to play professionally in Italy last year rather than serve an unpaid internship in Arizona’s backcourt, was last seen on Draft day making one of the more memorable sporting entrances not involving a paraglider. A few weeks ago, he lamely tried to play the dozens on Ricky Rubio’s head. Many questions remain about him. Foremost among them now is whether he’ll get John Hammond or Scott Skiles fired first. Consider Jennings’ exchange with a friend of his, rapper Joe Budden, about whom I know nothing but whom BlackSportsOnline helpfully describes as most famous for “putting his girl’s ass on camera.” BSO has the video for now. The Baseline’s Chris Littmann has the heavily starred transcript: On next season in Milwaukee … Budden: You better worry about Ramon Sessions, diggin’ in your a**, pause. On what happened on draft night … Budden: Who was hatin’ on you? On whether he’ll start next season … Budden: You think you gonna start for real though? On Ricky Rubio and the Knicks … Budden: Let me know when Minnesota get there. So I can watch Rubio light your f****** a** up. I never seen a n**** hate on Rubio so much. I know we’re all supposed to be deeply appalled at the immodesty of our basketball youth, but you have to marvel at the sheer ballsiness of a 19-year-old who puts himself in his GM’s shoes and non-tenders one player and demotes another, all on his own account. Jennings, I fear, is doomed to spend a long year in Coach Tough N****’s crowded doghouse.
Any day now, the NBA will teach Brandon Jennings to be studiedly bland and tactful. Until then, let’s enjoy the glorious insolence of a 19-year-old rookie who says what we’ve all thought at one time or another: “Fuck the Knicks.”
Jennings: He’s not going to be here. inaudible That money is going to Charlie.
Budden: N****, Ramon Sessions is gonna be there.
Jennings: I doubt it.
Budden: They ain’t go no other guards.
Jennings: Ridnour.
Budden: N****, get that bum-a** n**** outta here.
Jennings: He’s going to be a backup.
Budden: To who?
Jennings: To who? Who else n****?
Jennings: Jay Bilas.
Budden: What happened? You ran in the draft late or some dumb s*** like a loser?
Jennings: No, I was at the hotel. This is what happened right. My agent is like “Well, we ain’t hear nothing .We ain’t have no guarantee.” So we makin’ phone calls and s*** and n***** is saying like “The workouts is great and everything and he’s the best point guard but we don’t know yet, we just don’t know.”
Budden: They didn’t say that about Rick Rubio, number one, and number two they didn’t say you the best point guard. They said your jump shot is shaky, you got some potential, but your work ethic is bull****. You averaged 3 points.
Jennings: You’re a liar. I know you’re lying now.
Budden: I’m just telling you what they said.
Jennings: That ain’t nothing but a college person.
Budden: Just tell me what happened. You end up running in the draft? I tunred it off after that.
Jennings: No, n****, I came out there and made my appearance n**** and I had the best appearance out of all them n******. And I was the best dressed, they said, by the way. I was the best dressed.
Jennings: I don’t know, actually, I really don’t know.
Budden: I heard that n**** Scott Skiles is an a**h***.
Jennings: That n**** tough, that n**** tough though. There must be a reason he liked me. There must be a reason.
Jennings: inaudible
Budden: You know what’s funny? You’re the only guard in the draft talking s*** about Rubio.
Jennings: The other n***** are scared.
Budden: What are you going to do when Rubio comes to the Knicks?
Jennings: Rubio is not coming, they are not giving up Rubio. You got Jordan Hill, you happy with that?
Budden: I don’t really know enough about Jordan Hill to be happy … I’m happy with Toney Douglas.
Jennings: I know they were booing this n****.
Budden: What does that mean? They boo everybody n****.
Jennings: If it was Stpehen Curry, them n***** would’ve went crazy in there.
Budden: Shut the f*** up, you don’t even know nothing about New York basketball.
Jennings: F*** the Knicks, them n***** skipped out on me.
Budden: Oh man, you feel to the Knicks like I do about Jay-Z? Laughs Yo, the Knicks is your Jay-Z?
Jennings: F*** the Knicks, them n***** is always going to be weak.
Budden: This is where I f****** hang up on your f****** ass for talking stupid.
Jennings: Duhon ain’t gonna get it done.

Noone’s better than Hill nowadays -
The Yankees just completed a season of dominance in New York, taking the season series from the Mets, 6-0. In that last game, Mariano Rivera trotted out of the bullpen in the eighth inning to nail down his 110th career save of more than three outs — and, oh by the way, the 500th save of his magnificent, Cooperstown-bound career. So here’s the question … Trevor Hoffman is still the all-time saves leader. Rich Gossage and Rollie Fingers are already in the Hall for their work in what was a different era for closers. Bruce Sutter recently joined them, perhaps representing the first real one-inning closer, or at least the natural transition from Hoyt Wilhelm and the Goose to Dennis Eckersley and Lee Smith. But Rivera has done it on the world’s biggest stage for his entire career — none of the others mentioned were one-team guys, much less New York guys. Rivera has done it int he post-season, arguably better than anyone else ever has (with a respectful nod to Luis Gonzalez, natch). So there’s your question … Mariano Rivera … the greatest closer (career, not just one season or we’ll get lost in the minutiae of really-goods like John Hiller and remember-him?s like Bobby Thigpen) in major league baseball history? And if not him, who? Note: Rivera is quite likely to remember this game as the day he got his first career RBI more than the day he nailed down his 500th save, hey?
I bet everybody saw that coming! Any thoughts?

I wonder how Pie’s serious fans feel - “
Had there been no incidents in yesterday’s win over the White Sox, I probably wouldn’t have posted anything this morning — the first post today would have been the preview thread at 1 pm CDT.
But given the passion exhibited in last night’s recap regarding Milton Bradley — and I commend all of you for keeping it on topic and not making anything personal — I felt it was important to have a post up this morning where discussion on this issue can continue, because this appears to be a real turning point for this team, just as the Michael Barrett/A.J. Pierzynski brawl did the same thing two years ago, coincidentally in a game at the Cell.
First, I continue to stand by the two things I posted last night regarding things I have heard about Milton Bradley. I learned these a couple of weeks ago but decided to sit on them at the time, only posting them last night because I felt they were relevant to yesterday’s incident. No, I can’t and won’t post names. Believe what you will, but I have absolutely no doubt I was told the truth.
There’s another take on this situation this morning from Chris DeLuca in the Sun-Times:
Veteran Alfonso Soriano, who doesn’t get the credit he deserves for being a true team leader, said he had never seen anything like it during his nine-year career. And then Soriano — always one of the first Cubs in the clubhouse — put the onus on Bradley to shape up or ship out.“That’s my first time to see a manager fighting with a player; get mad with a player,’”Soriano said. “Sometimes you can get mad, but not like that. It’s something new for me every day.
“We are 25 players, and we have to be on the same page. If he is not 100 percent to help the team win, we don’t need him. If he’s 100 percent and he wants to play, he’s more than welcome.”
That means Bradley must arrive today at U.S. Cellular Field earlier than usual — which means, don’t be the last position player to wander into the clubhouse. He must put the team first — for the first time in his career. He must accept responsibility for his selfish actions — instead of blaming everyone else.
You can criticize Soriano all you want, justifiably, for his play on the field. But one thing you cannot say is that Soriano has the wrong attitude. Soriano’s a leader, and he is absolutely correct. I have a lot more to say, so there’s more below the fold.
I’m also posting again about this because of two articles written by Cubs beat writers, one by Paul Sullivan, the other by Gordon Wittenmyer. I posted this from Sullivan’s article in the comments last night, but felt it deserved further attention:
Bradley blamed himself for his poor start (.237 batting average), and conceded he didn’t realize how “overwhelming” it would be to be a focus of attention on the North Side.
“People are always watching and looking at everything I’m doing,” he said. “My personality is more of a guy who likes to go unnoticed — to show up, do my job and go home, and really not have a whole lot of hoopla about it.
“I’m really not a guy who’s seeking any attention. I’m not seeking to be noted, like ‘Milton Bradley and the Chicago Cubs.’ I don’t want that. I just want to be part of a group and fit in and just love and be loved. That’s the basis of what I am.
“Maybe years ago I might have thought I wanted all this, but I really don’t want all the attention.”
He didn’t want the attention? Exactly where did he think he was signing? The Yukon? The Cubs get more attention than perhaps any team in baseball save the Yankees and Red Sox! They have been on national cable for 30 years and have a national fan base! Yes, I know — he played in “major markets” before (Oakland, Dallas, Los Angeles). But neither the Athletics nor the Rangers have the huge and rabid fan bases that the Cubs do, and in laid-back LA, the Dodgers don’t get the kind of scrutiny that the Cubs do, nor are they under the pressure to win that the Cubs are. Didn’t Bradley think of this? Didn’t Jim Hendry do his due diligence regarding Bradley’s personality and whether it would fit in the pressure cooker that is Cubs baseball?
Bradley was, in some sense, signed to be “Milton Bradley and the Chicago Cubs”, given the desire for LH-hitting production and the dollars he signed for. All of this could have and should have been known to him last December. I have no doubt that Bradley wants very badly to succeed and perform well. The “passion”, however, that he supposedly brings to this team isn’t the kind of “passion” we need. Instead, it’s a daily soap opera of one kind or another. If Bradley wanted to “show up, do his job and go home, and really not have a whole lot of hoopla about it”, he should have signed with Pittsburgh, Kansas City or Florida, places where baseball is an afterthought.
The second point, brought out in Wittenmyer’s article, is more disturbing and more direct:
Piniella ordered Bradley to the clubhouse and followed him — with Carlos Zambrano joining him — through the tunnel from the dugout.According to sources, Piniella then shouted at Bradley, “You’re not a player! You’re a piece of sh–!”
Bradley then said, “I have too much respect for you to respond to that,” a source said.
Presuming the above exchange is true — and I have no doubt that it is — there are a couple of things I’d like to say. First, a manager really shouldn’t say that about one of his players. Bradley’s reaction, when he surely could have exploded and made the situation far worse, does give me some respect for him.
But keep this in mind: two years ago after the Barrett/Pierzynski incident, it’s clear to me that Lou likely went to Jim Hendry and said, “Get him off my team.” And two weeks later, Hendry obliged him.
It’s unlikely Milton Bradley can be traded anywhere at this point, unless the Cubs are willing to eat large chunks of his remaining contract. As some say, however, he is a “sunk cost”. Maybe this is the thing to do — admit this was an enormous mistake, see if any team will send a face-saving prospect or two, eat most of the deal, and move on. Perhaps Adam Dunn could be acquired to play right field the rest of the year — honestly, I don’t care how bad his defense is, at least he’d be getting on base and hitting home runs (and you could run Reed Johnson, Ryan Freel or Kosuke Fukudome out there the last couple innings for defense). Or send Jake Fox out there once Aramis Ramirez returns — Fox has shown he can be at least capable in the field.
If not, then the Cubs are stuck with Hendry’s bad decision, and hopefully can go out and reclaim Mark DeRosa to get another bat in the lineup — yes, the Cubs are interested and have inquired about DeRo, says Wittenmyer. For me, I will not boo Bradley unless he makes an egregious on-field mistake (such as tossing another ball into the stands with less than three outs). I’ll cheer his positive contributions as long as he wears the blue pinstripes. I have no doubt that he wants to win and do well, very badly. The problem is: I don’t think he knows how, how to be part of a team, how to channel that passion and aggressiveness to the team.
And I will expect nothing from him. Because that’s what he has given us so far.
“

Scott doesn’t know what he’s into,
“The Jays’ affiliates had more rain-outs (2) than wins (1) on the night. Enough said. Davis Romero received the start and was not overly sharp. He allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk over 5.1 innings of work. Bryan Bullington relieved him and allowed one run in 1.2 innings, but struck out four. Bill Murphy had a scoreless inning and struck out the side. Brian Wolfe, though, took the loss when he allowed three runs on two hits and two walks without getting an out. Offensively, JP Arencibia was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Kevin Howard also had two hits, as did Michael Barrett. Angel Sanchez had three hits, including a double. David Dellucci was 3-for-4 with two homers and he scored three runs.
Luis Perez, the Jays’ representative in the upcoming Futures Game, struggled with his control and walked five batters in 6.1 innings. He gave up just three hits, though, and allowed three runs (two earned). Adrian Martin finished the game with 2.1 scoreless innings. Brian Jeroloman went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Scott Campbell went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Nick Gorneault, Adam Calderone, Brian Dopirak, and Darin Mastroianni also had hits.
Dunedin - postponed
Starter Josh Wells had another ugly outing and allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk in 2.1 innings of work. Ryan Koch allowed one run one four hits in 3.2 innings. Keith Meyer worked two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Hunter Moody worked one scoreless inning and struck out two, while allowing one hit and one walk. Lead-off man Justin McClanahan went 0-for-5 with three Ks. Brian Van Kirk and Mark Sobolewski each had two hits. Balbino Fuenmayor, AJ Jimenez, Johermyn Chavez, Tyler Pastornicky, and Chris Emanuele each had one hit. Sobolewski and Jimenez drove in runs. Van Kirk had the only extra base hit, which was a double.
Scott Gracey had another poor start and allowed five runs in 4.2 innings on six hits and two walks. Willi Mendez also struggled and allowed three runs in 1.1 innings, thanks to three hits and two walks. Dan Miller and Zach Outman also gave up runs. Offensively, Jimmy Gonzalez and Welinton Ramirez each had two hits - and a double a piece for the only extra base hits of the game. Randy Schwartz had a solo homer - his fourth of the year (He only has five hits in total). Jack Murphy went 1-for-3 and Luis Hurtado was 1-for-4.
Gulf Coast League Jays - postponed
The Three Stars:
3. Adrian Martin for 2.1 scoreless innings
2. Brian Jeroloman for two hits and two RBI
1. David Dellucci, three hits, two homers

I wonder how Pie’s serious fans feel:
I’ll make this brief, but wanted a place to discuss the latest in “As Milton’s World Turns”. First though, the Cubs won, they hit a 2-run home run and a 3-run home run. It’s nice to know those haven’t gone extinct. Jake Fox and Geovany Soto did the damage and no truth to the rumor that Soto was promised White Castle if he hit one out today. Randy Wells got his second win on the year, two solo shots being the only marks against him. After 98 pitches and 7 innings, the increasingly baffling Lou went to Carlos Marmol and he predictably walked two of the first three hitters, gave up a couple of hits with some assistance from Soriano losing a ball in the sun (which I admittedly didn’t see) and was mercifully pulled for Sean Marshall who got out of the jam by inducing the 3-1-3 double play by A.J. Pierzynski with the bases juiced.
The big story though will unfortunately be Milton Bradley. He struck out his first two times and then flew out to left and then apparently took out some frustration on a Gatorade cooler. Details are a bit sketchy now, but either Lou was already rethinking his change of mind of playing Bradley on Friday or Lou took exception to Bradley’s freak out and the two exchanged words and Bradley was replaced by Ryan Freel in right field. Why Bradley freaking out is any different than Z or Dempster or any other player is beyond me, but I’m guessing there was some tension before this moment between the two. Or maybe Lou is standing up for the rights of Gatorade machines and coolers everywhere to dispense thirst-quenching beverages to athletes. Then to complicate matters, Bradley was spotted in street clothes leaving the game. It seems Lou told him to go home after the Gatorade thrashing, so at least he didn’t walk out on his own, because we all know what Cubs fans think about that.
Hopefully this is much ado about nothing and Lou seems to have already decided to put in the past, suggesting Bradley could still play tomorrow(lefty happens to be on the mound). I do know that trouble seems to follow Bradley and some of that is his own doing and some of it is unfairly going after someone with a checkered past. As I mentioned, Z can punch out a catcher and take out a Gatorade machine and Lou gets the catcher traded and laughs at Z’s freak out. Soriano is hitting worse over a 2-month period than anyone I’ve ever seen wear a Cub uniform, but Bradley is threatened with a benching. Then of course, Bradley can’t buy an extra base hit when it counts to save his life and thinks the entire world is out to get him, when all they really want him to do is hit over .250 with a little pop.
what do you think? How do you think this news about Pie will affect the team this season?

In Egypt, which lacks a free press, the government can try to make a scandal dissipate just by using politically correct language. Case in point: apparently, the translation for “possibly-money-stealing-and-home-wrecking prostitutes” is “girls.”
While this story about a certain soccer team’s late-night exploits has sparked media attention in recent days, it has been all but ignored in Egypt, where the Ministry of Information controls all editorial content. One Deadspin reader speaks “passable Arabic” — don’t we all? — and scoured one of the top Egyptian dailies, Al-Ahram, to read its dispatches from South Africa. The Arabic edition of the newspaper chose not to feature its soccer team’s allegedly scandalous behavior, burying it below other eye-grabbing headlines like: “Outside the circle of light” and “News read soon: a contract extension Hassan Shehata.” (Thanks, Mr. Google!)
Aforementioned dear reader was kind enough to put his Arabic skills to work and serve as Deadspin’s official translator/liaison to Egyptian media matters:
The Egyptian embassy in South Africa is closely following the event of the robbery of members of the National team during their participation in the Confederation Cup.
The announcement was made by Mona Amr Mussad, foreign minister for African affairs, who said:
The government of South Africa desires to contain this incident and not to intensify it, and to maintain relations between Egypt and South Africa. In addition, the foreign ministry has been sent a number of cables from the South African embassy in Cairo praising the performance and behavior of the national team during the tournament, and wishing them well for their participation in the 2010 World Cup.
Mini Amr said: The lawsuit against the paper that published the story that some of the national team players were accompanied by girls will occur after the completion of the investigation into the events of the theft, and he also said:
It is preferable that the newspaper apologizes in the appropriate manner, and that the apology is preferred to initiating judicial proceedings, which are not beneficial to relations between the two countries. The ministry has indicated that it has accompanied the national team in several encounters with African countries, and noticed disciplined and positive behavior from all the players. What happened in South Africa is irresponsible conduct from an irresponsible newspaper and this matter should not be seen as something larger than it really is.
It’s different take from “Allah is punishing them for consorting with prostitutes,” but I suppose that’s the beauty of the free press. We’re all entitled to our own facts.

I wonder how Scott’s real fans feel, It was a second consecutive good day on the farm with the affiliates posting a 4-2 record and the only defeats occurring in the Gulf Coast League and Double-A. Las Vegas won behind some strong relief pitching after David Purcey did not last long in his start. New Hampshire lost, but Dunedin won with a big inning and Lansing pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Strong pitching lead the Doubledays to victory while the Gulf Coast League Jays lost after a disastrous first four batters to the game.
Las Vegas 11 @ Tacoma 4 Boxscore
The David Purcey mystery continues, as the southpaw turned in another poor start and did absolutely nothing to show that hes close to ready to reclaim a spot in a Toronto rotation that currently includes three rookies, a pitcher with five career starts before this season and a converted reliever. Purcey went 2.1 innings and put up 3s across the scoreboard, allowing a trio of runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Purcey turned the ball over to TJ Beam who went 5.2 innings of solid relief. Beam allowed three hits himself, but he only allowed one run. This was in large part due to much better control than Purcey, as Beam didnt walk a batter and struck out five.Jonah Bayliss pitched a scoreless ninth.
After falling behind 3-0 the 51s rallied for nine runs over the fourth and fifth innings and grabbed a big lead that they would not relinquish. Buck Coats was hitless out of the leadoff spot, but Joe Inglett was 1-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs scored in the 2-hole. David Delucci hit his first home run for Las Vegas and drove in a pair of runs. Randy Ruiz reached base three times on a couple of a doubles and a walk. Bryan Harper and JP Arencibia each added doubles and a pair of RBI, while Aaron Mathews and Kevin Howard each had three hits and drove in five runs between the two of them.
New Hampshire 3 @ Reading 9 Boxscore
The game was closer than it looked, as Reading scored four in the bottom of the 8th off Leon Boyd to triple their two-run lead. Boyd struggled with his control, walking three batters, and his Double-A ERA is 9.88 compared to 1.54 for Dunedin. Two of the four runs came around to score off Edgar Estanga. This came after Brandon Magee gave up five runs over 6 innings. He gave up six hits and a pair of walks while striking out three. All of the runs were earned, except for one that scored on Al Quintanas 11th error of the year.
New Hampshire only managed seven hits on the evening and Scott Campbell was the only player to have a multi-hit game. Campbell had a triple and two of New Hampshires three RBI. Darin Mastroianni had a double for his first extra-base hit for the Fisher Cats. Todd Donovan was productive in the leadoff spot, going 1 for 3 with New Hampshires only walk of the game, while Brian Dopirak had a single and Luis Sanchez had a double.
Charlotte 3 @ Dunedin 6 Boxscore
Charles Huggins went 5.1 innings and didnt factor into the decision as he left with a 3-0 deficit. Huggins allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out four. He left the mound with the bases loaded and turned the ball over to Dumas Garcia. Garcia allowed the runner on third to score, but he otherwise got out of the inning unscathed and went on to pitch another inning. Robert Bell notched his sixth hold with a scoreless inning before Zach Dials picked up his seventh save of the year.
Dunedin left the bases loaded with none out in the second inning and for a while it looked like they may have blown their only opportunity to score. However, Dunedin struck with a vengeance in the bottom of the sixth. After a Moises Sierra singled Eric Thames hit a ground ball for a force out, but an error by Charlottes second baseman left both runners on base. Kevin Ahrens singled to score Sierra, but then Matt Liuzza and Jesus Gonzalez both struck out swinging. With two out both Adam Loewen and Justin Jackson singled and Thames and Ahrens both came around to count. With the game sitting tied at 3 and two out in the bottom of the sixth, Sean Shoffit came to the plate and deposited a three run homer to right centrefield to end the night of Charlottes starter Darin Downs. Shoffit and Ahrens were the only two Dunedin players with multi-hit games, as Shoffit went 2-for-4 and Ahrens was 3-for-3 with a walk.
Dayton 5 @ Lansing 6 Boxscore
This was probably the most exciting game on the farm yesterday as Dayton and Lansing traded multirun innings until Lansing took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. Tyler Pastornicky, Yohermyn Chavez and Jon Talley each had a pair of hits and provided the bulk of the Lugnut offence. Chavez was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI, while Pastornicky and Talley were each 2-for-3 with a walk. Talley also drove home two runs. Balbino Fuenmayor and Chris Emanuele each contributed hits and Mark Sobolewski added a double and two runs scored. Sobolewski scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie with a two-out double which was followed by a Talley single.
Lansing starter John Anderson didnt factor into the decision after leaving the ballgame with a 5-3 lead. Lansings two-run bottom of the fifth had given the Lugnuts the lead, but Dayton struck twice against Jason Roenicke in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Neither Anderson nor Roenicke was particularly effective, combining to allow ten hits and a pair of walks over 6.2 innings. Boomer Potts came into the game with a runner on base in the seventh and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for the win and then Matt Daly struck out three of the four batters he faced to pick up the save.
State College 1 @ Auburn 4 Boxscore
Joel Carreno had a fine second start for Auburn. He went 7 innings and allowed two hits. Carreno didnt allow an earned run, although one came around to score on a play that involved errors by both catcher Jack Murphy and centrefielder Eric Eiland. Carrreno struck out six and didnt issue a walk. Zach Anderson and Casey Beck combined to pitch the last two innings and Beck recorded his second save of the year.
Every batter for the Doubledays in the first through seven spots in the lineup got one and only one hit, while Kevin Nolan and Kyle Gilligan were held hitless. Nolan did draw a walk and scored one of Auburns four runs. Jonathan Fernandez scored two of the other three runs while Eric Eiland went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and RBI. Wellinton Ramirez had Auburns other RBI, as the team capitalized on a trio of State College errors to score some insurance runs. Jack Murphy also went 1-for-3 with a walk, while Bradey Glenn, Randy Schwartz and Lance Durham all added hits.
GCL Blue Jays 4 @ GCL Braves 6 Boxscore
Ryan Shropshire started for the GCL Blue Jays and took the loss. Shropshire threw 4 innings and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk. Shropshire struck out six, but was victimized by a poor beginning to the game. Three consecutive singles to begin the game loaded the bases and then Alberto Odreman hit a grand slam to give the Braves a 4-0 lead before Shropshire had retired a batter. Alex Pepe, Tyler Ybarra, Leandro Mella and Felix Moreno each pitched an inning of relief, with the first two each allowing a run.
Yan Gomes, Matthew Nuzzo and Gari Pena each went 2 for 4 for the Blue Jays. Kenny Wilson was 1 for 1 with a double, a hit by pitch and a walk, but he had a poor afternoon on the bases as he was picked off first and also caught stealing second. John Roberts was 0 for 5 but drove in half of the teams runs while Kevin Denis-Fortier was 0 for 3 with a pair of strikeouts.

what do you think? This might be shocking news for Scott fans, but there are those of you who will say that you saw it coming. I’m pretty surprised though. Scott is neat, I really hope this doesn’t affect the season.
